Gen-AI Agents: Wizard of Oz

Reimagining AI partnerships and the future of work

Real Issue

A large tech company wanted to understand consumer collaboration with AI agents in creating and executing plans, especially those associated with planning and studying, aiming to understand interface agentic AI needs.

Real Insight

Ipsos conducted one-on-one interviews with a diverse group of participants, including teenagers, young adults, and adults. The sessions explored how participants plan and how participants wanted to engage an agentic AI to plan an event, purchase skincare, and study for a class. The participants interacted with a demo agentic AI using a Wizard of Oz approach to perform the role of the AI.

Real Impact

Our findings uncovered the type of control consumers want over AI agents to alleviate their privacy concerns and identified strengths and weaknesses of existing AI agent interface designs, resulting in guidance for AI plan and task tracking.

Risk document creation and validation study for pen injector needle

Validation study of two user groups for a pen needle

Real Issue

A Japanese medical device manufacturer sought Ipsos's services to evaluate its pen injector needle for market release in the United States. The needle was intended for use with a pen injector device for patients who required subcutaneous injection of drugs including insulin and human growth hormone therapy. This client was unfamiliar with FDA regulations and relied on Ipsos to provide the most up-to-date guidance on validation studies.

Real Insight

UX researchers developed all study materials including creating a URRA developed from the client’s UOUP. There were 30 60-minute sessions conducted for two user groups, adult patients and adolescents, where participants simulated an injection. In addition to the pen injector needle and its instructions for use, participants were also provided with the pen injector and its accompanying materials as they would in a real-world scenario.

Real Impact

The results revealed that the instructions for use for the pen injector needle, coupled with the needle’s design, mitigated use-associated risks. Ipsos' human factors report provided a thorough analysis of user interaction and safety, which facilitated seamless incorporation into the client’s FDA submission.

Accessibility Study for a Financial Services Client

Real Issue

A Financial Services client tasked us with identifying any accessibility issues with the consumer credit card application process. In particular, they were interested in testing with people who use assistive technology.

Build the product teams awareness, empathy and understanding of accessibility and assistive technology, specifically around a credit card application process.

Real Insight

Build the product teams awareness, empathy and understanding of accessibility and assistive technology, specifically around a credit card application process.

Real Impact

We discovered that many digital environments still aren’t quite hitting the mark for those who have low or no vision. For example, drop-down menus, error messages and dense T&Cs all caused issues for people using screen readers and similar assistive tech. The recommendations provided by Ipsos UX, ensured that the credit card company could update their application process in order to make it as accessible and easy to use as possible for all users.

Global design thinking training program

Comprehensive training initiative to democratize design thinking across all departments of a global pharmaceutical organization

Real Issue

A major pharmaceutical organization appointed a new leader of their UX efforts and needed to establish design thinking capabilities across the entire organization. The challenge was creating a scalable training program for diverse audiences—from product teams to HR, engineering, legal and other departments across global units. The training needed to accommodate novice users with no prior design thinking experience while maintaining professional rigor and providing practical tools teams could immediately apply to their work.

Real Insight

We developed an 8-module training program combining PowerPoint presentations with embedded trainer videos. Our approach created a dual-layer system: pedagogical modules teaching concepts alongside practical, branded templates for design thinking tools including journey maps. Each of the approximately 25 templates was delivered in multiple formats (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Miro) with comprehensive documentation covering instructions, use cases, timing, prerequisites, and required resources.

Real Impact

The training program successfully created a scalable framework now being deployed globally through train-the-trainer workshops to heads of departments across all international units. The refined, branded content established a new standard for organizational training materials. By providing both theoretical knowledge and immediately applicable tools, the program empowers employees at all levels to incorporate design thinking into their daily work, fostering a more user-centered culture across the entire organization.
